Seeing John Lewis being beaten on the Pettis Bridge is as chilling today as it was then. John Lewis was a hero for the ages.

My hearts hurts knowing another hero is gone from this world. Mr. Lewis led a life of action and compassion, we should all leave such legacies.

My heart breaks at the loss of our fierce fighter for justice, equality, peace and love who, on our behalf, suffered countless jailings, beatings, insults and derision but never submitted. We, in turn, must never forget and we must ensure that he is awarded his rightful place in the history of our country as one of its true heroes. Awaiting him is a tumultuous welcome in Heaven -- Well done, Faithful Servant! Rest in Peace, John Lewis!

I remember Mr. Lewis from the pre-Washington march in Selma when he was beaten by police with a billy club, hit continuously in his head. Felt his pain but am thrilled that he made it back to this American land to continue your work. So proud of him and his years of fighting for freedom, the right to vote, equality for all and the many laws he introduced to have passed. His legacy lives on and we shall continue fighting for our civil rights, justice and economic stability FOR ALL. May you live on in your spiritual life, surrounded by love and peace, Mr. John Lewis. To your family, may solitude and peace surround them.

I've thought so much about John Lewis and the amazing work he's done to protect the nation, to protect each and every one of us regardless of political party, regardless of the color of our skin or the individual or multiples of cultures running through our blood.
My tears spilled yesterday as I saw the carriage taking him across the bridge one last time. I caught my breath when I heard the gentleman at the Capitol singing with such love and passion, and I thought John Lewis too would have been moved by such a voice that makes one's soul tremble with each note.
I am grateful for the fight he fought in his life, time and again, to ensure equal rights for all, for his convictions and courage to keep going when the battle was so hard pressed to fight more. And I'm grateful for his having taken time to teach each and every one of us that no matter how much we thought we knew, he could still teach us more.
To John Lewis' family, thank you for sharing this national hero with all of us--including those who may still not get it. How we still needed him when he left, but he has left our hearts injected with his courage and strength, that we may carry on with more good trouble.
Sending you blessings and love. May all of you be comforted in the wings of angels and each other, and may he too be enfolded in their wings as he travels now to the rich rewards he so richly deserves. He will be deeply missed.

Though unfortunately not a constituent, John Lewis was one of the few politicians who always had my unqualified trust and respect. I wish I could have voted for him or had had the chance to meet him.
The world is the poorer for his passing

I met John Lewis about 5 years ago at a workshop for NYC DOE. He was a dynamic speaker. His life was a tribute to integration. He was a real activist .I only hope we can finish what he started soon and peacefully.
