John Lewis was my hero, gone but not forgotten. I stand on his quote... "Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."
RIP my hero......

John Lewis is a true American hero. He sacrificed so much for the right of African Americans to vote. Also, he was instrumental in dismantling segregation in restaurants, hotels and schools. He was a great leader in the Congress and always stood up for the people who didn't have power. May he rest in peace. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

I grew up in the deep south - and as a white person, I was indoctrinated with racism as everyone I knew had also been. John Lewis eventually became a hero to me as well as many of the other participants in the civil rights movement. I just made a feature film about Bob Zellner who knew John Lewis well. I have dedicated the film to the memory of Mr. Lewis - a great and important man.

We were honored to have you. Your pride, your courage, your service and your life was an example to all that it is not okay to stand by while the world tries to keep us down. You showed us that we have to stand up and let them know that we are HERE and we absolutely matter. Rest in paradise. God has called one of his great soldiers home. We will forever be grateful.

We Americans, no matter what race we are, have been lifted up and carried forward by the profound sacrifices that Congressman Lewis has made during his lifetime. His courage should be an example to us all to continue fighting for what is right and true in our country as we strive to overcome the lasting effects of slavery on our collective psyche. We know this struggle is ongoing just as Congressman Lewis' struggles were continuously difficult, but his life is a testament to unwavering courage and commitment to change.

I am so saddened to know that John Lewis has moved on. I loved John Lewis because he was a man of principles, spoke the truth, and fought through non violent means for justice. We needed him to help guide us through this tumultuous time in our history but his message and voice will never leave us ,he will live on in my mind, in the history of this country and the world forever. I had the honor to hear him speak in NYC in 2019. My condolences to his family. Everyone in his family has been blessed to have been given such an outstanding person to spend and live one's life with. John will remain in our hearts forever .

Because of him and people like him, I am here today. A Black man that is conscious and aware of the struggle my ancestors went through. Very grateful for his life and his convictions. Thank you sir! Rest now.

My sincere condolences to the family of the Honorable John Robert Lewis. Thank you for sharing him with us and supporting him in his battle for our civil and voting rights. What a glorious reunion as he is welcomed by his heroes and mentors as an equal among the giants of The Movement. God is pleased. It is now our duty and responsibility to move his impecable legacy forward. Know that you are in my prayers as he will forever be in my heart. God Bless you.

I have always respected and admired the courage of John Lewis.
That started many many years ago when I saw people march across the Edmund Pettus bridge on TV as a teenage in 1965. I once had the special treat of thanking him for all he had done for the world and humanity at the BookExpo many years ago. I immediately welled up because he thanked me also but I stressed that I had learned from his example of moral courage and leadership for decades.
His work and sacrifices were for all of humanity and his example as a person of fortitude , integrity and vision for change always inspires all.
My sincere condolences and love to all his family.
