So much love for Rep. Lewis' family and friends. Sometimes I feel so awed by his force and bravery and dedication and selflessness in the pursuit of justice, that it seems almost superhuman, and I wonder if those of us who haven't sacrificed as much can ever live up to him. But we can, and we must. We owe it to John Lewis and to humanity to emulate him.

John Lewis reminded us each and every day that we have work to do to insure equality for all. It is a large vacuum to fill now that he is not here to continue the good trouble. We today can and should push each and every day for a more perfect union for everyone.

John Lewis was a saint and his angelic presence is missed already. America has lost one of its finest. He inspired me. I am white and I find myself hating Trump and McConnell and other Republicans. John Lewis had far more reason to hate and yet he loved despite all. I find that unbelievable and am trying to find my way to think as he did. It is hard. Hate is easy. Love for enemies, difficult.

He was everything I hope for in an elected official. His life was a continual effort to help America make amends for it's errors regarding slavery & racism. An honorable life of service to a worthy cause. On the legacy of such lives, is a better future made possible.

What an amazing man and what a lifetime of leadership, grace and achievement. We could use more leaders like John Lewis right now, but what a legacy he leaves behind. Thank you, Sir, for your honor, integrity, and strength of character.

God Blessed the world and African Americans in particular with John Lewis who embodied God's Word and Will for us in his every action and reaction to the challenges we face. John Lewis did it with patience and in a humble, quiet manner that belied the iron strength of a soul that would never give up or give in. Thank you for sharing him with the world. We are all better off for the works he accomplished in his 80 brief years on Earth. I love you John Lewis, Rest in Power!

A true patriot and a worker for the people ... for all people. May his memory and his story be told often to sow the seeds for new generations of patriots and workers for the people.

The United States need more people like John Lewis. Special people who had that special something to inspire others to try and make America better. To be honest, I am very weary of America’s future especially if President Donald Trump should win re-election. I fear any recent strides or gains for people’s rights could continue to fall by the waste side and plunge America into an enormous abyss. I was born in the turbulent 1960s when the USA had inspirational leaders like Martin Luther King and President John F Kennedy who challenged the USA to stride for more. Kennedy challenged the nation to reach the moon within 10 years and return safely to earth and MLK fought the civil rights movement in that decade. The USA needs inspirational people like John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King and the late John Lewis. They all wanted America to be better. It’s something we just don’t have enough of during these unsettling times.
